Trustees are unreasonable

Multiple attempts to meet with the Trust Board have been turned down.

None of the trustees live nearby, they don’t appreciate the impact they are having on the community. Many leaseholder neighbours had a chance to freehold in the 1990’s when the Trust Board last offerred it. Now they have neighbouring homes which are deteriorating. The Trust Board has no concept of creating community just how to create hardship. They ignore reasonable letters, requests for meetings. They need to offer leaseholders either reasonable compensation for their improvements or the ability to freehold asrecommended by the Lusk report. Reasonable leases would enable leaseholders to sell their properties. Right now leasehold properties are getting firesale prices. That was not the vision John Logan Campbell had.

Look at their attitude to the Showgrounds and the charity that used to operate the showgrounds.

“Auckland's ASB Showgrounds - one of the country's biggest and oldest venues - went into liquidation as a result of of the Trust refusing to discuss how they might continue operating.

The former chair of the showgrounds board, Kim Campbell, said the development followed ongoing disagreements with the landlord, the Cornwall Park Trust. He said a dispute over rent had exacerbated the pressures caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The showgrounds held many events and shows vital for small business to show their wares and promote themselves.
